Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak on the road in the top division and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the first half to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally five minutes after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, advising the match official to review the goal on the screen and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on target, the manager chose the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having space and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous balls into the Spurs penalty area.
