The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy scary movies: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its streaming debut via Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like typical biological terror, but inside Together exists a deep meditation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie move from the metropolis to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, sure, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the protagonists discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the pair. This force creates a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying of scares, blending moments of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and far away from his network of friends. He dreads the notion of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision is that he avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the type of challenges that arise in most partnerships over a long period. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. On the other hand, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu now.
