Separately, a flourishing trade exists on Telegram, where groups with numerous of participants share “before and after” images, injection guides and assertions of next-day British shipping. Sellers market the drug there before directing buyers to other platforms for transactions.
Learning About The Experimental Drug
Retatrutide is an investigational injectable developed by American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. The drug affects three gut hormones – GLP-1, GIP and pancreatic hormone. Preliminary studies suggest it could assist patients reduce up to 25% of their body weight. Nicknamed the “triple G”, the substance is being promoted online as the successor to Ozempic.
Medical Professionals Express Concerns
However, doctors and pharmacists have warned that the sale of what is still an unlicensed drug in the UK is a cause for concern and could lead to users injecting substances of unknown origin.
Several experts said the demand for the experimental drug could be connected to the increasing cost of licensed slimming treatments such as Mounjaro.
Regulatory Status and Enforcement
Selling retatrutide on TikTok or Telegram is illegal in the United Kingdom, as it is an unapproved drug that cannot be marketed or supplied for human use under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012.
Some content creators attempt to circumvent the regulations by calling to the substance as a “research chemical” or citing it as “not for human consumption”. Retatrutide is not a restricted substance, but advertising and supply can still breach pharmaceutical, advertising, and consumer regulations, risking fines, legal action or imprisonment.

Within moments of joining one group, a vendor shared contact information, where the majority of transactions take place. The vendor provided an instruction manual and guaranteed shipping within two days. When asked whether the substance was genuine, one vendor responded: “You can’t be sure.” Another provided a photo of a supposed testing documentation. None asked about body mass, health issues or previous experience.
Product Information and Costs
Inside these communities, messages display black plastic packages with Royal Mail labels, claiming to include fresh supplies. One communication stated: “It took eight of us to load them this morning.”
Customers can select between powder vials, prepared at home with sterile water, or pre-filled injectors usually sold at £160 for 20 milligrams. When asked how much time a pen should last, sellers give contradictory responses varying between a few weeks to “depends on your body”.
Service Moderation and Safety Actions
A representative for the messaging service said it regularly moderated harmful material on its service including content that encouraged the “misuse of controlled medications”. The company added that it eliminated “millions of pieces of harmful content each day”.

“Individuals are injecting substances they can’t verify. Even if the science behind retatrutide is sound, these digital products may not contain what they claim,” said Jason Murphy, the head of pharmacy at Chemist4U.
A medical professional of an online medical service linked the surge in interest to recent cost increases for authorized slimming medications such as Mounjaro. “With prices rising, individuals are using social media. But counterfeit treatments are extremely dangerous. You can’t be certain what’s inside or whether the environment they were produced in was clean,” she said.
Her team has already encountered individuals injured by personal administration from unverified suppliers. “We recognize the frustration, but purchasing from Telegram or WhatsApp is taking chances with your health,” said Wyllie. “These materials could be impure or incorrectly dosed.”
